The purpose of this $58 million Lake Region Water Treatment Plant and Transmission System was to reduce the public water supply withdrawals from Lake Okeechobee and provide an alternative water supply solution for the lakeside communities of Pahokee, Belle Glade and South Bay by shifting the area's water source to the Upper Floridian Aquifer, which should provide significant environ mental and public health benefits to the region.The project was made possible through the combined efforts and financial contributions of SFWMD, the FDEP, Federal Government, Palm Beach County and communities of Pahokee, Belle Glade and South Bay.
Scope of Work
Installation of approximately 80,000 linear feet of various sized water mains (30", 24" and 16"), and approximately 10,000 linear feet of 30" and 24" raw water main, as well as 24" water main area crossing over Hillsborough Canal.
